One Month

One month today. Strange how life goes on. Strange just how much it means to me. Too much pain, not understood. I still have the thing that I think I must tell her this that and the other. When we are so far apart it just doesn't seem real.
I think of how it would have been here, so quick, then a church service today, the ricordini, flowers....nothing. No news, just nothing, just  vuoto, nulla.
I can only try to come to terms with this alone, as usual, alone. Always alone.

No one understands. No one can understand.

Ellowyne Simply Ella.

I have been working on some patterns recently. Finally I have another one available in my Ravelry store and I will be adding them to Etsy as soon as I find time!

Ellowyne Wilde dolls are such lovely models. Really fun to knit for.

Palm Sunday

La Palma processione

These are a few photos of the Palm Sunday procession in the village.

Processione La palma

La Palma

It is an old tradition that on Palm Sunday people in the village decorate olive branches and take them from the old church to the calvario and then to the main church in procession before celebrating the Mass.

Palm Sunday

In olden days they had soppressata and small bottles of wine hung on them. Little decorative provola cheese and sweet cuzzupa.

Palm Sunday

Nowadays there are chocolate eggs and sweets but a few people still do follow the old way.
This is a tradition which has died out in many of the local villages. Fortunately the new priest has maintained it here.

Here are some photos of a past year with the old priest. Even when it rains everyone participates just the same!

AltGr key failure

6 am on February 29th and I just had to finally find time to write! Leap year doesn't come every year!

I have had some computer problems recently. All of a sudden the key on my laptop keyboard wouldn't let me do the "@" sign. I realised when trying to add my e-mail to something I was writing.

I thought maybe it was just something temporary but then a few days later I discovered I couldn't do the square brackets either! I got a bit worried. On this computer for those symbols I need to press the AltGr key and the one where the symbol shows. It is an italian keyboard.

AltGr non funziona.

At first I thought it was the key itself not working, maybe dirty, but then found I could use it correctly while writing with my word program.

AltGr fail

I talked to computer expert son who said he would take a look when he came over and that it would probably just correct itself.

Short long story is he still hasn't had time to come over and as I know he is very busy I don't like to bother him by insisting or taking my computer to him.

So my research online started: Nada. I also asked on Ravelry, my go to place for any and all problems not just knitting, but even there didn't find an answer.

I did find that a lot of people seemed to have the same problem and couldn't resolve it! Someone said to check "hot keys". Sure if I knew what they are and how they work! I am always scared to make changes in case I do something wrong.
I did realise it was possibly the English keyboard being selected instead of my Italian one but even though it was now only in Italian the thing still didn't work!

Windows updates came and went and the problem continued. In the meantime I got by using copy and paste!

Then a light of genius hit me! (Lol) I was trying to work out what it was and decided to update my Google Chrome setting. That was the answer! Now the thing works again!

In the middle of so many updates and reset and checking for virus it was only the Chrome refresh that was needed! Lol! Now I am happy.

In the midst of all this I have also finally learnt how to do those curly brackets on here: shift, AltGr and the key with the symbol. { }.

Learn something new every day!

Happy Valentine's day!

I wonder how many of you celebrate Valentine's day. I don't but my daughter made these delicious cupcakes!

It has been Busy Busy here!
There has been no time to update things on the blog recently.

Ellowyne wilde valentine dress

I did  manage  to make Ellowyne a Valentine dress. My younger daughter made her the little necklace and bracelet to go with it.
The dress will be a pattern once testing is complete.

What I did publish was the "Biased" skirt for AG dolls. I have also made a matching sweater which is still being checked.

Lots of projects being prepared so I hope to have news soon!

Chiacchiere or Cenci

It is carneval time here in Italy and one of the traditional things to make are chiacchiere. There are other names for these, cenci is one that springs to mind but here in the village we call them chiacchiere.

Cenci

There are many different ways of making these but I have an old recipe I have used for many years which has now become the family recipe. It is from a recipe book I bought which no longer has the cover but has some super winter pasta recipes.
My sister-in-laws both use this now, in fact my younger sister-in-law told me that this is the only recipe she has as "it is the best". She is 15 years younger than me so I was already using this when she got married.

I use a pasta machine to roll out the pastry but it can be done with a rolling pin and some patience!

Ingredients.

500 g white flour (about 4 cups for my overseas friends!)
Extra flour for rolling out and dusting the pasta sheets. I used nearly 50 g when I weighed what was left in the pack.
5 eggs (2 whole and 3 egg yokes)
3 tablespoons sugar.
4 half egg shells of liquor. (Limoncello, marsala or similar)
a pinch of salt.

Oil to fry. (I use olive oil as that is what I have here!)
Icing sugar.

Put the flour in a bowl and add the  sugar, eggs, salt and liquor. Mix well.

Cenci

Use the empty egg shell to measure the liquor.

Cenci

Roll it out thinly with the pasta machine or a rolling pin.

I usually use the largest setting on my machine and put the mixture through several times so it is mixed well. My machine has 6 settings. I start with the biggest and then gradually work to the 5th one. When making the pasta for lasagne I used the 6th setting, for this I keep it very slightly thicker at the 5th!
I dust the pasta stripes with flour as I work.

Cenci
I fold the pieces of pasta and repass them various times.
Cenci

Use a pastry cutter to cut out stripes of pasta. I deliberately make them irregular so they don't seem bought!

Cenci
Put olive oil in a frying pan and heat. Add the chiacchiere gradually being careful to not overcook. A friend used to make such soggy almost burnt ones! Not nice at all. They should be dry and crisp.

See how the bubbles form even though there is no baking powder in this recipe.

Cenci
Take them out as soon as they are a golden colour and place on absorbent paper to cool.
These below were a bit too brown so were discarded!

Cenci

Dust with icing sugar or some people even like to dip them in chocolate!

Cenci
It is very easy to make these. The only thing is to be sure to mix the ingredients well, to be careful to remove quickly and drain oil and not overcook.

If you have someone to help you it simplifies things, DD was busy with homework but she did arrive in time to test they tasted good! Lol!

I didn't take a photo of them with the icing sugar as I will add that tomorrow when she takes them into school.

Do let me know if you make any and how they turn out!
